Academic direction for the Postgraduate Laws Programme is provided jointly by the Departments of Law of Queen Mary and UCL (University College London). Queen Mary is one of the largest Colleges of the University, with a rich and diverse heritage. The College began life in 1887 as the People’s Palace, a philanthropic endeavour to provide East Londoners with education and social activities. Founded in 1826, UCL was the first university institution in England to admit students of any race, class or religion, and the first to admit women on equal terms with men. UCL was also the first to offer degrees in English literature, modern European languages and geography, and pioneered the university-based teaching of law, architecture and medicine.
